Irony and surreal imagery has flourished as a vital fuel for wit for centuries. And yet I am increasingly finding that even well-meaning liberals fail to grasp it. We need to acknowledge that there is a sufficient deficit in perception and interpretation that plagues Americans across the entire political spectrum.
