Another approach, and one I try to adopt when I can, is to do the mundane things with the kids. Get them involved and have fun with it.
I feel that ticks off the 'get stuff done' box and the 'quality time' box whilst providing a chance for the kids to learn and appreciate the effort that goes in to running a home. Things take longer obviously so it's not always possible but it does seem to go a long way in fostering independence.
Still hafta make time for 'fun stuff' mind!
