I've been recommended Tae Kim's guide for learning Japanese a couple times, and I'm instantly repelled by its use of broken English to signify that Japanese does not make such or such distinction. The only thing it achieves is gratination.
時間がなかったからパーティーに行きませんでした。 There was no time so didn’t go to party.
友達からプレゼントが来た。 Present came from friend.
It just sounds broken, and it's extra work for everybody.
