Really enjoying 'Let The Music Play: How R&B Fell In Love With 80s Synths' by Steven Vass. Hits the right note between interesting tidbits and what synths were used where and by whom without going into circuitry diagrams or getting too wonky.
Structuring the book based on specific songs was a smart move and you'll be saying "he/she worked on that track?" a lot.
