@mollymay5000 my “personal use” solution has been to switch to using local LibreOffice files which I sync between my computers using syncthing…
Unfortunately, this isn’t a good alternative for most people… especially if you need realtime online collaboration with others.
I’m not actually sure if there is a solid alternative right now... I tried owncloud/nextcloud a while back and wasn’t impressed, but those are the only comparable non-Big Tech solutions that I’m aware of.
