Today, I’d like to share a #lighthouse with you.
Waipapa Point is the place, where the most devastating catastrophe occurred in #newzealand shipping history as of today.
In 1881, the Tararua foundered off on one of the reefs around this area. Of 151 passengers, only 20 survived. The lighthouse was built afterwards to avoid such disasters in the future.
The disaster happened in late April during the night.
