Indie game devs are like indie musicians we're not special. You toil and play in seedy bars and upload youtube videos and have a 1/100000 chance of being discovered. Like being an indie game dev, you need to do it because you love the creative art of making games. Every so often a game like Balatro comes out and misleads us all.
