I'm always amused to see the mainstream headlines talking about archives getting volunteers to "read cursive" and transcribe documents. "Cursive" means joined-up writing, technically. But American cursive is a specific thing, and it is usually NOT what is needed to read pre-1800s documents.
1950s, though, sure.
