The old wizard was grumpy and in poor health. But the water had to be given, not taken. So he called out to the villagers.
“Give me water from the fountain of youth. If you don’t, I will #steal the smiles from your children’s faces, the patience from their parents, the wisdom from your elders, and the courage from your warriors.”
Horrified looks surrounded him. A young man filled a water skin from the fountain and gave it to the wizard.
“Drink and wait until morning.”
The wizard nodded curtly and drank deeply. In the morning he woke up, still old and ill. He stepped out to the village square, and was greeted by the same man.
“The water has to be given freely, not coerced. Try again next year.”
