As for the furnace. The tech came and swapped out the circuit board and started the furnace, no swoosh of the gas valve. He tinkered for a bit and determined it wasn't the circuit board but gas valve that has a short. He put the old board back on and tested again. Yep it was the valve. Not easy to diagnose apparently. The valve is about the same price maybe a wee bit more than the board. I won't be charged for a new board.
