I'm reading "Pixel" by Pixar co-founder Alvy Ray Smith and he started describing sampling theory and analog wave reconstruction, which made me consider whether language could be a type of 'sampling' of reality. It turns analog and continuous ideas into discrete words - which when received by another person are ideally reconstructed into the original idea. I don't know what to make of that but it's fun to think about.
