Recently been looking at #HDR pictures, and it's interesting how much more "cut off" from the screen the look. As if somebody tore off a rectangular window to somewhere else out of the desktop surface it's displayed on. This doesn't really happen in SDR, where images look like they're "pasted" on the desktop most of the time.
I'm wondering how much this is linked to the fact that these HDR images are consistently much above the local adaptation (driven by how bright the desktop is), where AFAIK our visual system has a completely different perception than around/slightly below.
