@marjolica I'm not convinced solar on all new homes in the UK is a good idea. At Melbourne, Australia, 37 degrees south, low sun in cloudy winters mean 6.6kw solar panels only deliver 1/3rd of our electricity in winter. The rest of the year, they deliver plenty. The UK is a lot further from the equator, eg Newcastle is 55 degrees N, so there is less solar power in winter.
Wall mounted split system air conditioning works well for us in winter & doesn't use a lot of power. We heat the space we want warm, but your winter is colder. We removed the old gas heating.
