CSS wonks in my TL: I know you can make "global" CSS variables by defining them in a :root, but can you make-and-then-access namespaced variables?

I'm getting a lot of colours and I want to not have to prefix them with --colour at each definition, but be able to access them with something like var(--colour.body-text) (admitting that that particular syntax is not real, but something that feels like that).
