Ooof I can smell that this year there will be "new" computer hardware on the big bad list.
My PC mainboard doesn't support Win11 and Win10 security updates will stop end of October. But I want to keep playing games and render the occasional small thing with it's two nvidia 1070ti if possible.
And my 2013 Macbook keeps having weird episodes... So that needs to be repaired or switched out some day, too.
Approach 1: Update Hardware
I would love to get rid of my Monitor from the Desk but still have the Windows machine around for friends & games. So sunshine/moonlight should be the way to go and stream those games, right?
Approach 2:
With all the work valve has put into gaming on #linux I might also be able to just switch to a linux distro and not upgrade the hardware. (yet)
The bad part here is that I have terra bytes of Data on NTFs drives 👀
Apporach 3: Move data to a modern NAS? (I have an old unused buffalo terastation that I fucked up in the process of using it as time capsule) And I still wonder if it would be possible to slap in SSDs for more speed but I guess it's pretty limited by it's CPU.
In any situation I'll check with a sys admin buddy to get a good used Laptop as "daily driver" and switch to linux.
Much love for all ideas, hints and distro reccomendations :tealheart:
