When trying to clarify problematic rules in OD&D I like to have a look at the literature that inspired the rule. For example the Chainmail rule about Heros being able to shoot down dragons with a single arrow is clearly a nodd to Bard killing Smaug in The Hobbit.
Along this line of thought: what is the literary precedent for Phantasmal Forces? Any idea?
