By the time she reached the Port of New Orleans, a fellow passenger had taken a shine to her. He took her to an Ursuline convent to live, while he continued on to Northwest Louisiana to establish a farm.
He later returned to young Kate when she was of marrying age. They were wed, and she wound up keeping books for what would be the family farm.
So..yeah. That connection is important to me.
