i helped a neighbor build a sandbox a bit ago. if someone off the street just came by and wanted to help.. you know.. we have drinks and wouldn't mind the help, and even if they were only around for half an hour, that's a thing!!
i've kind of found a comfortable niche where i show up to places and be chill and try to help if people are looking for it.
i don't know if it's something about my gormless midwestern face or i just look like a default random person or whatever, but i end up talking to a ton of folks from all walks of life and sometimes i fix their bikes and sometimes we go to the range and sometimes they just say "hi!" and never do anything else.
i legitimately have no idea if i'm helping. i hope i am. i hope no one i taught has to use their skills. i hope some people remember me ten or twenty years on.
it's kind of like being on fedi. i'm just casting whatever i got into the void. whomever is interested.. i hope they get something out of it.
