@andrewfeeney @dynamic Per a PhD student I had the pleasure of sub-supervising years ago, under socialism in Bulgaria, the more dangerous jobs provided for earlier retirement with full pension. That's not to say that life was all strawberries and cream in that era, but the system did make that specific accommodation.
