My theory is that Google is making the play to sideline Firefox at this time (and Microsoft going hard on similar OS monopoly stuff) because it's an election year, and best case (for them) all antitrust action will halt entirely about mid-2025, worst case we'll all be too distracted by crazies protesting a "rigged election" they'll be able to get away with at least part of their plan anyway.
