I have many personal anecdotal experiences... but perhaps a more famous example would be Frank Zappa?

While he was (and is) hailed as an foundational innovator, he DESPISED most of the music happening around him like Velvet Underground, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Toto, and many more. At the same time he valued the guitar prowess of Allan Holdsworth over Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.
