In the winter when water is colder coming out of the tap, I fill the kettle before I go to bed so that it warms up to room temperature over night and takes less time to boil in the morning.

@fesshole doesn't everyone do this?

@kestral
No, because I boil only enough water for the two of us, and that quantity of water sits in indoor pipes, where it's already at room temperature. Keeping it in the pipe until I need it keeps it fresher.
I know how much water fits in our mugs, and the kettle has a scale down the side, so it's easy to boil only what I need.

@CppGuy @fesshole Wow, that really got up your nose and caused some anger, didn't it?

I'm sorry if that sounded angry. I'm not angry at all. I merely wanted to explain why I don't find it necessary to pour out the next morning's water at night.

@CppGuy @fesshole Fair. I think you've got longer internal pipes than me!

@CppGuy @kestral @fesshole I fill a water filter jug at night, fill the cups from the jug in the morning, empty them into an empty kettle, and boil. Doesn't everyone do this?

@JSAMcFarlane
No, I've never tried a water filter. Do they really make a difference to the taste of the tea? (That's an open question. I have no opinion on it.)
