I kind of wish Pixelfed would play up its strengths more and differentiate itself from other Mastodon services. I really like it there and want to see it blossom, but it's a little weird when I have two federation accounts and people wonder which one they should follow.

@mathowie Yes to all. I have a separate account there because it just works better for the way I think about these places and spaces, but “it’s all just one thing under the hood” leads to a lot of ambiguity and weirdness, as you point out.

@mathowie Hey, that’s me (or other me, to your point about accounts). Pixelfed isn’t a Mastodon instance though it has its own architecture for servers and clients that’s compatible with Mastodon. It would be nice if you could verify all your ActivityPub accounts against each other so there was a single identity someone could follow in their client to get everything you do, or only get your Mastodon or only your Pixelfed. Because the clients are also so different for viewing posts.

By the way, I forgot to add to my post that Retro (https://retro.app/) is probably the nicest to use Instagram replacement I've used, but I can't ever convince anyone else to use it.

@mathowie yeah and the fact that this account, my “mastodon account”, works just fine on Pixelfed. It’s all a tad confusing.
