[#]GlobalTalk admins – do you have an unusual setup?

I’m speaking specifically about the network architecture/configuration. Things like (but not limited to):

• Hardware AppleTalk routers

• Multiple hardware segments

• Emulated AIR hosts

• TashTalks and TashRouters

• CGNAT internet connections

• BlueSCSI (and other HD emulators)

• WiFi segments (or AIR running over WiFi)

Please send me a short description of what you’ve set up – I’d like to document some of these in my AIR manual addendum!

@europlus I suppose so…

• L2VPN to get past the terrible CGNAT malarky. It's an Intel Mac connecting to that over Wifi and then sharing it back out over Ethernet

• Original AirPort base station for Wifi to old PCMCIA PowerBooks

• LocalTalk section and Ethernet section with their own network numbers, but sharing the same zone name

• Set up an AppleTalk ImageWriter in CUPS on 10.4, then shared that to a 10.6 machine, then shared that as an AirPrint device to print from my iPhone

@billgoats @europlus iPhone ImageWriter printing is awesome! Too bad you probably don’t get that horizontal line anymore that shown where the print was at.

@europlus after much work I’ve finally filled out the form to join. I believe it’s working on my end but my box running AIR is using BlueSCSI over WiFi.

@jonschwenn Thanks! I’d be interested in the BlueSCSI WiFi - just a basic description, not a full set of steps. I want people to still have to discover and figure things out - or reach out to others :)

@europlus Not sure how "unusual" this is compared to other admins, but here's my setup:

• AIR running in a QEMU VM on a Mac Mini M1, connected to a Vonets Wifi bridge on the Ethernet port (to get around the "No AppleTalk on Wifi" problem)

• The same QEMU VM is also running Apple IP Gateway to provide internet access over AppleTalk (using MacIP)

• Macintosh IIfx with an Asante MacCon3 NuBus Ethernet card connected to a Vonets Wifi bridge, running the LocalTalk Bridge control panel to bridge the Ethernet & LocalTalk networks

• Macintosh SE connected to the IIfx via LocalTalk, with full internet and GlobalTalk access

• Apple IIgs connected to the IIfx via LocalTalk, with full internet and GlobalTalk access

• Synology NAS running Netatalk 4.1 in a Docker container, serving my GlobalTalk file shares and a virtual PDF printer

• Raspberry Pi running Netatalk, making my Brother MFC-L2730DW printer directly available to my local AppleTalk network (but not to GlobalTalk)
