I have a rather unproductive day with some sort of food poisoning. I was contemplating getting a @frameworkcomputer to replace my older linux-friendly laptop but I'm too concerned with reliability to drop a hefty sum of money for a 7xxx series AMD chip. :-/
As I'm typing this, I was wondering if my existing computer, one not really running Linux, might be coerced to become a rather powerful 16" linux workstation instead of a nice mac that no longer has any purpose in my day job.

Do I know anyone running #Asahi #Fedora or #Ubuntu on an M2 Max laptop? A quick glance at specs seems to show that I don't have microphone which is kind of defeating for my daily needs. Is that accurate?

@zygoon that's correct afaik. Also missing DP-Alt mode for USB-C ports, but the HDMI port works to drive an external display. I'm not certain about webcam, but the Asahi Linux compatibility chart should clarify.

@zygoon That's right. I have to use Bluetooth headphones to have a mic.

@zygoon AFAIK the mic doesn't work on any Apple-silicon Mac.

@zygoon correct for now, but it is very likely that it will be working really soon

@zygoon my AMD Framework 13 has proved to be fantastic running 24.04 if that's helpful to know? 😄

@sminez Yeah the 13 is arguably much better value as a companion computer but with my degrading eyesight I'd much rather have a bigger screen, even when I travel.
I have a Thinkpad X13 that I use for linux-on-the-go but it's somewhat slow and has 16GB of soldered memory that I cannot increase. I use virtual machines for testing heavily so that is a bit of a downside.
