It's a very toned-down article. Nothing wrong or incorrect about what Luce writes, but it fails to acknowledge the psychopathic tendencies that also motivate the current President — cruelty, vindictiveness and retribution are not necessary for unpredictability nor transactional politics. It is all a very bad combination.

Deals with Trump have no value. He is guaranteed to break them.

The logic is not just to avoid deals but as far as possible to build independence from the USA and defence against the USA.
