I have cleaned the chrome radiator in the bathroom. Yea, even unto the dust in the corners. Even the ancient paint splashes removed.

It didn't address the asteroid problem or help Rwanda but it was within my control and it is progress.

'Completing the tasks' is a dangerous illusion but it is always, always possible to inch a step forward, rather than slide an inch back.

Yesterday, buying cut flowers from Colombia was a guilty pleasure. Today it is an act of solidarity. #USpol

Edit: Colombia is the biggest flower exporter in the world, before Japan. UK imports around £60 million of cut flowers a year from Colombia. Netherlands imports the same.

6°C outside so not a lot of activity. Nevertheless, on my walk I found this interesting fungus.

I am pretty sure it is Exidia thuretiana, commonly known as White Brain for obvious reasons.

The oligarchs need to eliminate the middle class. The project to replace white collar employment with AI is well under way but how will they steal the value tied up in residential property?

An obvious answer seems to be a forced or enticed swap of that value for crypto, followed by the destruction of that value?

In the Great Clearout I found an unused insulated backpack designed to carry two bottles of chilled white wine.

I barely drink at all. A picnic would mean that I was driving, so no alcohol for me at least. Also no need for a backpack if a jaunt by car.

A mystery. Perhaps a gift I forgot about as soon as I received it.

So. 'Consumers' - us - put two fingers up to the retailers' boring whine about Christmas, starting late August. Instead bought stuff we actually need, at an appropriate time.

This is good.

Better still, they should be locked up if they mention it outside of a three week window.

I was followed by a Pixelfed account with no posts, no avatar photo, no bio. It may have been a human and entirely genuine but I blocked at once. In the recent rush to Pixelfed there are bound to be some bad actors slipping through the net.

In addition to Wodehouse, I recommend Beverley Nichols. Most famous as a flower arranger [Yes. Exactly] but he was also a fearless journalist, using a 'homely' column to make serious points.

He was a leading voice in anti-armaments/appeasement.

His laments about the 1930's 'modern world' sound extraordinarily like our laments today.
