thinking about this and #monsterdon
"[Werner] Herzog reads voraciously; he says that all the good directors do. It doesn’t even have to be great literature. His friend, the documentary maker Errol Morris, recently recommended that he read a real piece of crap. “It was a bad book by a failed lion tamer. His arm was bitten off by a lion. He wrote with the other arm. And it’s a wonderful book to read because you have to comb the content against the texture and it gives you fabulous insights into human nature. It is the same with trash movies, trash TV. WrestleMania. The Kardashians. I’m fascinated by it. So I don’t say read Tolstoy and nothing else. Read everything. See everything. The poet must not avert his eyes.”"

@moira now I'm wondering why I love #Monsterdon but have zero interest in watching WrestleMania or anything featuring the Kardashians 🤔

@diazona when i was running that geekmusic festival for like five years, we had a quasi-fake quasi-real talent show that gave away prizes which I used to describe as junk but not garbage in that it was all exactly what it said it was and all of it worked
that included our round trips to beautiful downtown kent ("one stop shopping for all your dead body in a trunk needs"), renton (and it's "beautiful historic commercial warehouse district"), and kenmore ("we used to be interesting, thank god that's over") which were actual pairs of round-trip Metro and Sound Transit single-use passes
i genuinely miss doing that part of the show, the nwcMUSIC Science Olympics Trophy for Entertainment was always a sight to behold xD
