How the first three vertical miniflyers handled being outside for three months.

the glue seal on the edges did not hold completely, but also didn't fail completely. I saw that the worst failed almost immediately; the other two lasted much longer. the QR code and large text stayed legible throughout, though the maps became very washed out over time.

i've put up new, bigger ones, in the same places and few more places. they're printed darker, and kept plastic borders rather than being trimmed to edge with added waterproof sealant.

I presume being printed darker will help with fading, and hopefully the heat-sealed laminate edges will solve the water problem. But we'll see over a few months' time.

hm hm hm

i got a 404 on the bike map github page from someone looking for

north-king-county-base-map west RELEASE 1 MAY 2024 8.42pm.png

and obviously that's no longer a supported filename because i standardised all that stuff for link durability

but dang if i can find it

(neither can duck duck go or, sigh, google, which is particularly frustrating since it may have been a referral through google)

(or it may've just been somebody's bookmark idek, github doesn't give you much to work with here xD )

If you don't read French - this is suggesting that the reason the flu season was so bad this year is immune system hits from COVID-19 resulting in a situation where each case of flu is a bit like having your first case of the flu.

thinking about this and #monsterdon

"[Werner] Herzog reads voraciously; he says that all the good directors do. It doesn’t even have to be great literature. His friend, the documentary maker Errol Morris, recently recommended that he read a real piece of crap. “It was a bad book by a failed lion tamer. His arm was bitten off by a lion. He wrote with the other arm. And it’s a wonderful book to read because you have to comb the content against the texture and it gives you fabulous insights into human nature. It is the same with trash movies, trash TV. WrestleMania. The Kardashians. I’m fascinated by it. So I don’t say read Tolstoy and nothing else. Read everything. See everything. The poet must not avert his eyes.”"

why does ANYONE ever pick "thing" in the wheel of fortune bonus round? WHY

it is the worst category

if you pick thing you're just saying "yeah I won enough money already"

NEVER PICK THING IT'S THE SAME AS "NO CLUE GIVEN"

ETA: Okay the below is fixed, but why would db.root not update when everything else does?

(it's on Debian)

okay this is weird

the root hints file I have diffs identically to the one I just pulled down from the internic as a sanity check (other than the last updated date which is also weird)

but I'm getting this regardless:

named[1252171]: checkhints: b.root-servers.net/A (170.247.170.2) missing from hints

named[1252171]: checkhints: b.root-servers.net/A (199.9.14.201) extra record in hints

(and similar for the IP6, elided for space)

why

Honestly this wasn't too bad, the only misstep in my opinion was the kids' camp scene, and just because there's no way to make that stupid enough to fit in with the rest of the film, and they didn't try - which is good, given it's little kids - but it's a mis-step
