@yoginho@spore.social At this point it's a ritual that must be performed. Marvin Minsky was saying in the 1970s that in 5 years computers would be smarter than people (I'm paraphrasing from memory. Maybe he said ten; I'd have to dig it up). "Self-driving cars" have been five years in the future for a few decades. Etc.

When I read his "Machines of Loving Grace" I was shocked at the rhetoric and reasoning: "I am not going to sell sci fi and stay realistic and we'll have brains in boxes that advance science and techno massively within a tiny amount of time and revolutionize medicine". Science and technology are civilization wide projects and even hypothetical very smart brains in boxes aren't going to magically do sci fi.

And I am someone who can appreciate LLMs even with all their limitations.
