i can’t wait for massive volcanism to cause a completely unrelated mass extinction by transforming the earth’s climate beyond our ability to cope. climate change is real but the earth has changed a lot of its own accord many times, and the subtlety and sensitivity of our required conditions cannot be overstated

dweebs like “we’ll go live on mars” do not appreciate that zero years were spent adapting the human body to void or extra-planetary conditions while hundreds of millions adapted it to earth. musk’s mars ambitions are genuinely a nerd’s naive fascination with sending laborers to perish meaninglessly.

@garbados in my sci fi novel that fucker survives into future as a head in a jar. this would solve that problem. (most of the rich burn alive in their rocket to mars)

@garbados one of my takeaways from riley black's the last days of the dinosaurs was how sweepingly apocalyptic the K-T impact (or whatever we're calling it now) was. like, anything not underground or underwater got instantly fried. like, there's climate change, and then there's PLANET change.

@garbados a thought came in to my head recently. trying to coach myself, put things in some kind of perspective that all the horrors of humankind (while still absolutely horrible) are kind of a blip and that literally tomorrow the planet could do something truly apocalyptic and none of it would matter

idk. the idea that the world keeps going despite all our efforts oddly comforts me
