On a purely stylistic level I really dislike the term "enshittification": it's unimaginative, lazy, as ugly as the process it describes (hence, probably, its success). We had way better contenders, such as "crapularity". Things always disappoint…

@entreprecariat this is how @pluralistic articulated it, and i feel it's fair. enshittification is a more vulgar and populist term, but it (should) mean(s) platform decay in reality. but yeah, it's been overused as a general sentiment over any exploitation of users. someone could probably also claim that cable tv was/is pretty much enshittification by that logic

@entreprecariat True but I'm just glad that it became such a popular idea. It really put a big leak in the seemingly impervious hull of big brand platform compliance and the idea of specific products being inevitable.

@praxeology fully agree; the sad thing for me is that we needed that word for that. Compare it to "context collapse" or even "filter bubble"! It seems that ugly times call for ugly concepts.
