I did it. It felt like what I needed to do today. After careful consideration I kept my account on twitter (I will call it that as long as its owner misgenders his daughter) so nobody can grab the handle and pretend to be me, just locked it and unfollowed everyone, even if it was hard and brought back a lot of memories, many good, some not so good.

I left the message

"Who I am is where I stand.

Where I stand, is where I fall."

Twelfth Doctor

Supporting democracy, LGBTIAQ+ rights and human decency. Not supporting fascists. I keep the account but lock it and unfollow everyone.

Where There's Tears There's Hope

Stay safe, everybody!

And I really wanted to have the message "not a follower" on there even if it meant two clicks for every one of the 872 accounts.

Toot

@strangeseawolf @HeliaXyana it’s very hard for some to leave. It becomes a friend circle in many ways. I also left, but two years ago and I have no regrets. Welcome.

@Beachbum @HeliaXyana Thank you! I also sort of "soft" left in 2022. I kept the account open basically to help people come over here and for DMs of friends and artists I couldn't reach otherwise.

But it was still an emotional thing unfollowing everyone. A lot of folks on there helped me in dark times. One was especially hard to unfollow, my first contact to twitter, and another one who I helped in a personal crisis. It definitely is much more than just some "online stuff".
