Day 1

The book explores sensitive topics like trauma, PTSD, and mental health in general. Though it's now over ten years old, and thankfully we've made progress in these areas, it's still a valuable read.

@elizach The problem I have with this book is that despite all my efforts, I've yet to find any empirical evidence to support Bessel van der Kolk's claims. I've asked clinicians and searched journals. This is troubling given how popular his book has become in clinical practice and with laypeople.

@eighthourlunch Wow, thank you for the info! I had no idea about any of that. I read it a couple of years ago after a friend recommended it for PTSD. Along with some other books, it was an important part of my healing journey. That said, I do appreciate the reminder to keep an eye on the full context of any author’s background, especially with such an influential book. I think trauma recovery is so personal—what works for one person may not for another.
