Can anyone recommend a server for Pixelfed?

Is there any major reason not to go with Pixelfed.social?

Wondering if there's somewhere more art / maker / music tech / sound art focused than just a generic page.

I was under the impression you could log in with normal fedi credentials but don't seem to be able to get that to work. Perhaps post.lurk.org isn't geared up for integration.

@grahamdunning I picked another off the list pretty much randomly figuring I'll move once I understand better. It's a different service to mastodon so you do need to use a PixelFed sever, but the streams are interoperable so you can use a mastodon account and server to follow PixelFed feeds if you're not posting

@jikodesu

Thanks. There's a list that comes up on the login page too, just I also wondered if anyone had specific advice on choosing.

@grahamdunning I went with pixelfed.scot as I'm on mastodon.scot it seems to make sense. But I'm struggling with it a bit to be honest.

@grahamdunning sadly there's no such thing as "normal fedi credentials". Each service (mastodon, pixelfed, misskey, peertube, lemmy, etc.) requires a unique set of credentials on each server/instance you use

As for pixelfed.social, it's heavily overloaded right now and I think they've suspended new signups and federation

IMHO, unless you really want to replicate the look and feel of instagram, it has little to offer over mastodon besides more images per post (up to 12) and some image filters

@grahamdunning I tried to register with pixelfed.social several days ago, but my verification email still hasn’t come through. I went with pixey.org in the end and that came through straight away.

I’ve heard that Pixelfed has extra features to Mastodon e.g. ability to upload 20 pics to one post, and filters. Although I can’t see those yet (may be possible on the website, but not on the Pixelfed app yet?)

@catnip Thanks again for this, I've gone with Pixey now too.

Posted once via the desktop version, there's the option to add 20 images there.
