my late 2015 Macbook pro is slowly on it's way out. For a free machine (was being recycled by previous company) it's been a belter for the last 6 years.

I don't know what to replace it with.

I'm temped by a refurbed MBP or Air, but I want less and less to do with Apple (but Photo+iCloud works well for me).

I'd rather run linux, but I've not seen a metal bodies laptop that looks as well made.

All thoughts on physical kit welcomed.

How I would Be Evil today, if I was evil.

• Buy a .ai domain.
• Build something that if you signed up from a range of companies I wanted to target let you, otherwise out you in a "beta access queue".
• Build some bullshit functional that was actually just chat gpt or whatever behind the scenes but based on you uploading Word and Excel docs. It would nominally work.
• Keep all those docs and use an AI tool to figure out corporate espionage or blackmail routes.
• Promote the shit out of it with bought ads and endorsements.

linux geeks, help. It's sunday, my brain hurts and I am stuck. Can ping 22, but can't connect ssh on a remote host.

ssh user@REDACTED gives

ssh: connect to host REDACTED port 22: Network is unreachable

nc -v REDACTED 22 gives

Connection to REDACTED port 22 [tcp/ssh] succeeded!

why no worky?

EDIT: shonky config in .ssh/config that was routing REDACTED hostname to the wrong place. Thanks all!

I set off early because I thought there would be traffic.

There wasn't, so killing time I scrolled my phone and ran across the very sad news about the death of Vicky Teinaki.

Her enthusiasm always rang out so clear. I was always amazed where I ran across mentions of her and people who knew her.

I wish I'd known her better.
