Tomorrow is a pretty light day for me, work-wise. I almost wish it was a really busy day because I will badly need distraction and things that I care about to focus on...

"Fortunately," it looks like the windchill in the morning will be well below the -45C bus cutoff, so I'll probably have to drive my kids to school (buses get cancelled, but schools don't). Of course, that depends on the car actually starting.... yay, distraction?

The official weather report from Regina this morning is -47 with windchill. So, no buses, but public schools are still open (my partner teaches at a tribal school, they are being much more reasonable and just cancelling for the day).

The roads are not closed (unlike when the buses were cancelled on Friday), so as long as one of the cars start, we'll bring our kids to school.

Animals are still closed up in the barn. I'll let them out into the bigger pen once the sun comes up.

Wild to be dealing with these ridiculous cold temperatures while keeping an eye on the latest red flag warning in LA where my parents are. I hope they don't have to evacuate again... stay safe, LA!

The horse came outside the barn, stood there in the snow and whinnied, then turned around and walked right back in. I had the goats in 2 separate stalls, but the first batch of goats I let out just piled in to the other stall, and then the horse walked in too, so now everyone is in the same stall. (It looks super crowded, but they actually have plenty of room to spread out, they just don't want to).

So... I put a whole bunch of hay in there and I'll try letting them out again this afternoon.

@sundogplanets I worked in a couple of schools that practically became ghost towns when buses were cancelled due to inclement weather. But staff were still expected to make a "reasonable effort" to get in, so they could sit with the two kids in the class who lived in the neighbourhood 🙄

Post pandemic distance learning, you'd think there would be a saner (and environmentally friendly) alternative for days like this.

@sundogplanets round here (Ontario), when the school buses stop running, nobody really seems to expect the kids to get to school (although the schools are usually open should the parents wish to try.
