Happy New Year, may you all have a prosperous and productive 2025! I've chosen another #SonyP200 photo for today. I did love this solid little silver metal brick of a camera with its slightly larger CCD sensor (for a point & shoot). Colours were about the best digital colours I've had! So far my film photos of this bend in the Grand Union Canal haven't come close.

That half-timbered cottage again. I like that so much about this rustic building style is visible here. The thatch of course; the timbers which are the structural elements, the white panels (originally wattle and daub), the stolen stones from the Abbey, the brick panels every which way, and the tiny window!

Collapsing shed. I've been coming to Crackley Woods for years; this shed is technically on the neighbouring farm but seems like it's part of the wood. The lean and decay gets ever more prominent, and I keep trying to find a way to capture it.

An oak blew down in one of our recent storms, near the ford (which you may have seen a few times!). It completely blocked the road. The tree guys came and chopped it up, but most bits are still on the verge. On an impulse I had a go at counting the rings near the base. It's tricky, but I reckon around 150. So planted around 1875! Probably similar for this one, on Parliament Piece.

@tomnorthfilm This was back in October, and it was pushed one stop so more contrasty. But yes, sunny days do happen, sometimes completely cloudless. The bright low sun does cause these extreme contrasts.

Looks like we're about 500 miles further north than you are, (7.3 degrees), so the sun is that much lower in the sky.

I had one film this year taken in January really hampered by extreme contrast! Not quite sure how to control it....

@carusb @tomnorthfilm Pull the film. Expose for one stop more and develop for less. Try 20% less, although it does depend on the developer. A film like FP4 works well in harsh light too. My standard practice here in Spain.
