Here’s a thought: Different fediverse platforms are interoperable. For example, you can view mastodon accounts on Pixelfed and vice versa.
Which leads me to wonder why not have one fedi server that can post different types of content. Eg text/image/vertical video.
And then in the fedi client you can choose what type of content you want to see. Or what viewer mode you want to use?
That way you can follow a person once. And not have to follow their masto, Pixelfed, loops, wordpress(lol) etc.

I could pick what type a post is, video/gallery/text. It’d use the mastodon/pixelfed/loops/whatever standard for each post. And that would mean the client could render each in a different manner or display it elsewhere
As my main account is a mastodon one, if I follow a Pixelfed user, everything looks like a text post with attached images.
If I follow this acct on Pixelfed, it looks like a gallery.
Each is set up to use different accounts rather than one activitypub feed for all types of post

And then at this point rather than being a member of loads of socials and embedding them or linking to them etc. all my content is just one activitypub feed not matter the type of content.
That way the user can follow the person for all the content. Filter out a person’s different types of posts. Eg if you want my videos but not my text.

@mattgrayyes it's basically already possible. However, the main idea you'd add is a tag in each post saying how it'd wish to be rendered (either short-form vertical video, picture, horizontal video, or simple text). You can currently classify a post to have a certain language, and people can only follow you IN a language. With your addition, people's clients would automatically follow or render one kind of post, and not simply display EVERY image or video on their platform as such, despite never being made to be rendered that way.
I like the way you think. If you want to look into different concepts that try to achieve a similar thing, look for: Polycentric Identity. The main app I know that's trying to do this is “Grayjay” by Louis Rossman. It'd basically allow you to have “one” account yet it's YouTube and PeerTube tied together.
