Toot

Oh my, windchills close to -50 tomorrow night. On the bright side, it's great that very cold temperatures do still happen some places on Earth sometimes, I guess?

@sundogplanets

Yes, it's a good thing but not so much when you have to leave your toasty home to brave the weather.🥶

@sundogplanets Akron Ohio will have -25 wind-chill Tuesday. Our once every couple years that the temp dips below 0 day.

@gpnaturephotos @sundogplanets If this weather delays the opening of the Northwest Passage, it would. However, this weather is precisely because heat is exchanging more readily between the poles and lower latitudes through the polar vortex. So it most likely accelerates the opening of the Northwest Passage.

@sundogplanets Apparently the super low temperatures kill ticks so that's good. I keep telling myself.

@sundogplanets

We're not too far behind.

Went for a walk this afternoon on the rivers. Checked the temperature, but not the windchill. Colder on my face than I'd prefer. At least it seems normal for this time of year.

There were a few hardy souls out skating.

@sundogplanets that's for Sunday, so there is no school anyway and there are no issues with having no school bus, right?

it's nice of the weather to do its worst on a Sunday, then :D

@sundogplanets When the going gets tough, the students put on their ski pants in order to walk over to the toasty student union and study when it's -25°F (before wind chill). Sigh, college days in Montana, 40 years ago.

@sundogplanets Too bad you can't send this weather to Florida. It would shut the state down, and possibly permanently when you factor in depopulation.

No. Even as a Canadian, -50 is not acceptable.

@sundogplanets

I live in Aachen, Germany; my brother lives in Winnipeg.

I am further north than him.

Winter here, so far, has been 2" of snow (yes, in total), and a couple nights getting down to ~20°F.

I am constantly sharing my brother's weather reports with the locals here, reminding them of what they can expect if the AMOC ever does collapse.
