@grumpygamer @WedgeSparda as far as I know, sites with that tag in the head section can be linked to by you on Mastodon and other people get to see that the site is verified as being your content when you link to it. A proof that you own the site and can edit its contents, effectively.

@sdjmchattie This thing isn't about profile link verification. The "fediverse:creator" meta tag is what makes the link to Robb's Mastodon profile appear under the preview card in @WedgeSparda's reply.
That's its purpose: whenever anyone posts a link to a page on @grumpygamer's website, his Mastodon account would be shown alongside the preview card if the tag is present.
The idea was to make it easier to find journalists and news authors on Mastodon, but it's nice for personal websites too.
