honestly I did not expect that the US tiktok ban would result in an actual chinese social network becoming the number one app in both the US and UK app stores along with an incredible cross-pollination of memes and general cultural exchange

alright so two of the first things this app showed me were a girl firing an RPG and a girl with incredible muscles posing on a motorbike
I think we're going to get along just fine here

lmao chinese netizens are savage, just tearing into the american userbase like ‘I heard recently that in america, you have to pay a significant amount of your income for healthcare that does not help you?’

I found a sainsbury's fan page on 小红书 and in the comments people who went to university in the UK are arguing about british supermarkets and meal deals
this app could actually replace /r/casualuk, I'm so proud

@scarlet my friends may say I’m getting more German by the day but I will take my meal deal opinions until the grave

@q I honestly haven't had a meal deal in years
I would easily sell out my meal deal opinions in exchange for the Zwiebelleberkäse the butcher near my in-laws does fried in a roll for lunch

@scarlet @q meal deals would be considerably improved if Paulaner Spezi was among the drink options.

@q @erincandescent ngl, REWE's sandwiches have been pretty grim and lacking every time I've tried them

@scarlet @erincandescent oh I never went for the sandwiches
never really understood the appeal of a sandwich really, not enough seaweed (extremely Welsh statement I know)

@scarlet @erincandescent for those lacking context: everyone in wales lives on the coast, we tend to incorporate seaweed into a lot of food

@q @scarlet @erincandescent I feel like I live in a different Wales to you… the first time I saw seaweed routinely integrated into food was in Japan (in particular onigiri in every convenience store). Agree on not seeing the appeal of supermarket sandwiches though, by the time they have enough filling to be interesting, the combinatorics means they have something I don’t want to eat in. So I either get plain cheese or plain ham, or go for a non-meal deal option.

@h0m54r @scarlet @erincandescent unlike Welsh cakes it’s not a tourist item, so the English supermarkets don’t stock it
