Toot

So, someone just sent me this DM, and I thought it would be fun to answer it here.

It's only a half-joke. Like you know how some people get all worked up around nice sports cars? Yeah, it's like that...but not sad.

Nice locks remind me of restraints, of being restrained, of working with my hands, of cold, smooth metal and lubricants, of skill and precision.

No two locks are identical. Some are quick fun, some take hours of learning their secrets before they'll open up. Did you know different locks sound different when they open for you? They feel different inside too.

Sliding tools into a new lock is something you can only do once, but you never know if that lock will be one you come back to again and again. I have locks in my collection that I've spent hundreds of hours picking over the years, and I still get excited when I hear them pop.

I'm sure I could write a short romance novel on this topic, but I think you get the drift.

@alice The tactile sensations involved with picking locks sounds very in line with why I love drawing and painting, and why I'm learning guitar.

Now I'm tempted to give lock picking a try too. Sounds very fun and satisfying.

Perfect timing.

Just bought a 15 year old friend a practice lock picking kit for her birthday present!

Might have to ask you for advice ❀

@alice

This is way cool, and I've been enjoying your posts today

My first lock-pick was a drawer in the desk I used at the school library (I was an assistant all four years; talk about an easy A)

I picked it with a paperclip, LOL

That inspired me to read up on the art, though. Sad to say I haven't really picked it up as a hobby, though I occasionally will fish through a lock with a wire or something

I've also dallied with picking digital locks, heh

Anyway, tldr, I'm thinking about building myself a set of tools and picking a few of the locks I have laying around

@alice The romance novel will be about closed-off queer who has been hurt too many times, and the persistent lock picker who takes on their biggest challenge yet...and the title of the book will be "Unlocking their Heart."

@JoscelynTransient hold you gently, yet firmly in my hands as I get to know every part of you, outside and in. Laying you down softly, I'd slowly unzip my kit and select the the best tools to work on you with.

Er...I mean, that's uh...what the novel would sound like πŸ˜…
