Sun is beaming through the window, the whole left side of my body is on fire. The radio is playing, the kettle brewing and construction of Hogwarts Castle continues.

One thing modern LEGO does well is use colored pieces for non visible structure. It’s all been carefully planned to help the builder easily see where pieces are connected in relation to each other.
As a kid who grew up in the 80’s building space LEGO, where EVERYTHING was gray, this is a welcome change.

I remember building LEGO sets as a kid involved a LOT more counting of studs.

@tokyobybike Another reason they do that is to reduce waste of plastic. You'll notice that these pieces are often not-so-common colors. When a set requires that color, but then they retire it and they have a lot of leftover plastic from that color, future sets will use the plastic for such pieces.

@tokyobybike I also welcome the change in instructions and them becoming more detailed and showing more in-between steps that might be intuitive to more experienced builders, and were omitted in the 90s
sure, i’ll figure it out, but i know a handful of people that would get overwhelmed and give up
I have one mid size #lego #technic set from ‘91 the instructions of is a total of 20 pages, and finding the differences between pages drives even me mad as it’s black and yellow only

@zmeyche Last year, just for fun, I built up all my childhood space LEGO from the ‘70’s and 80’s. Compared to today it’s quite a challenge even for an adult.
