I've also noticed that my struggles with editing articles, are largely based on trying the find the correct syntax and grammar for the page, to match how I want the words to sound, when I say them.

@awoodsnet reading your work aloud is an important part of editing. Words have sound and rhythm. Back when the internet was getting hot, I posted this list of self editing tips. Proud to say it's been linked to frequently as examples of bad editing! But it has served me well as a guide to moderate line editing.

@JeffC1956 I like to have my computer read it back to me. I have a Bash function that converts my article from markdown to plain text. Then I pipe that to the say command which is

say -i -v Evan

This shows the text and highlight the word it's currently speaking. So you can follow along like karaoke. Evan is one of the two male American voices on MacOS, that I’m using. I downloaded the Enhanced versions, because it makes a huge difference.

The best female voices: Zoe, Allison, and Matilda
