Yup. Getting rid of my Bambu this year continues to be a good plan.

Fortunately my machine is firewalled and LAN only so I won’t “accidentally” get upgraded to this new firmware.

@amd I've been so jealous of the Bambu printers for years but couldn't bring myself to buy something without linux energy, hopefully their innovations get replicated everywhere else soon

@brett @amd They kind of are at this point. The biggest 'innovation' was filament-cutting MMUs, and those are a dime a dozen nowadays. The rest is just... tuned profiles and cheap spare parts.

@koz @brett @amd honestly if voron people didn’t have such massive ego problems, redesigned flawed parts, and streamlined the build a little so it’s less of a horrible experience, less expensive and less failure-prone in the long run (at least get rid of the stupid gantry cable chains ffs)… a 2.4 would be a much more competitive printer imo
also the slicer profiles they suggest aren’t very good at all

@mia @brett @amd The same can be said of the Trident. I'd argue that if you're building smaller (where the advantages of the 2.4 aren't as huge), Tridents are easier and more forgiving, while still getting very similar performance.
When it comes to redesigns, I want them to either adopt, or improve on, the BFIs. The front idlers on the Trident are just shamefully bad.

@koz @brett @amd i’d also appreciate if they at least acknowledged the existence of CNC parts (e.g. chaoticlabs has idlers and a tap) in the BOM tool because they make everything much easier and more robust. yes it’s great that you can do this with printed parts but you shouldn’t HAVE to imo. also:
and so on and so forth. there’s a looong list of gripes with the stock build. no one should have to assemble it like that and then spend a lot of time and money fixing all those flaws.

@mia do you have a toolhead board you suggest?
My trident is basically all the things you list except I still have chains. I plan to build another DIY this year and don’t plan on repeating that mistake.

@amd mellow-3d.github.io/fly-sht36_v2_general.html this one has been working very well for me

@amd (using it on xol-toolhead with a sherpa mini)

@mia I’ve been looking at building a Xol with a cutter (xol-metrix) and am starting to collect parts.
Have any tips or anything I should be looking out for?
