Well, it's all gone down the way we expected: SCOTUS has upheld the TikTok ban, using reasoning that makes it very clear they either don't understand data flows or don't actually care about protecting the data of US users.
TikTok has said they will start blocking access to US accounts on Sunday.

@evacide@hachyderm.io The literal source for how tiktok is a danger is "trust me bro", they have said that they cannot show it to the public. they haven't even showed it to tiktok themselves.

@evacide This is quite interesting- can you elaborate? Are those demonstrated data flows or what is claimed to occur? I'm skeptical of many large firms - but Tiktok's ties to the CCP make things murkier still. While Meta & Google have many skills in psychological manipulation they are at least arguably subject to laws - I don't think TikTok is any less-capable at psychological manipulation than those - but Chinese law is subject to the interests of the CCP.
Thanks!
