Okay, you talked me into looking at the post "Minutes to Midnight - A new plan" Looks like it might be a job to implement it!
I do have a question about the problem with using "Jekyll" because that is what I'm using. Have you seen anything else on that? I'll be looking around for it, so no need to spend time looking into it for me. But if you know something, I'm interested.
Thanks for the links and comments on them. I do read and enjoy what you dig up that I wouldn't otherwise see.

Thanks Anita for reading the stuff I write! It's always nice to get feedback like this :)
I guess his issue with Jeckyll is that it's written in Ruby which is a pretty heavy framework to download and install considering its only job is to create a simple website, so he's looking for something lighter.
@m2m am I correct about this? I don't want to put words in your mouth...
He mentions Zola, which is written in Rust and is available as a single binary, and off the top of my head I also remember having a look at "bashblog", which is really just a bash script, so basically zero dependencies if you're using a system with bash available.

Ah, okay. I did take a quick look at Zola and was impressed with it for speed. If I had started with that, I'd be happy, I think. At this time, I'm better staying with Jekyll and using my time in other ways. Still, I do see where Zola is a very good choice. It is not quite as compatible with Obsidian as Jekyll due to not using YAML, but that is minor. Probably if I could find a quick suitable theme, I'd make the change. We'll see. I'm glad to have the info.

@82mhz great links as per usual. I’ve seen that ai-music one floating around but hadn’t read it till now. Wow. So glad folks like that will save us all from having to do the things we—checks notes oh yes, right—do voluntarily because we find them rewarding.

@annie
Absolutely right. Did you know it took me almost an hour to write this post? What a terrible waste of time!
I'm investigating right now how to use AI to write my posts and linkdumps so I can spend more of my time scrolling Instagram and TikTok. I recommend you do the same.

@82mhz I should also look into having AI read all those books stacked around here and just give me a summary... hey! I wonder if I could also use AI to LISTEN to the music for me too -- no need to spend my time listening to it myself.

@82mhz That Minutes to Midnight post is great! The section about disconnecting devices from the internet, but still using them has my brain in overdrive. I need to stop looking at computers and thinking they absolutely have to be connected to the internet. They can do their job without it! It also makes me think about the lost art of the "LAN", or intranet. I might want various devices to be able to speak to each other, but never leave the LAN.
I got some pondering to do...

And there goes your weekend 😂
I'm already excited to read about what you come up with!

@82mhz @cinimodev I had a look too. My first thought was automating the
workflow you described recently. It shouldn't be too hard, but I wasn't in the mood today. 😁

Send Mastodon toot and get toot ID is already automated in the publish script. What's missing from my workflow is automatically copying the toot link into the post.
That would require for the script to know which markdown file is the source for the new post (which it currently doesn't know, it just runs hugo and this builds the entire site) and then inserting the link to the toot in there.
And frankly, so far I was too lazy to think about this, I'm kind of fine with copying this by hand 😉

@82mhz @cinimodev I haven't thought this through, but my ideas were to either use Git if I have it or check the RSS feed update that triggers the script. It should be the latest item.
But we should have Git anyway if we want to push and publish an update. 🙂
