Australians are more likely to have solar panels on their rooftop than a pool in their back yard, but many still don’t realise just how common renewable energy is, or how much of the power mix wind and solar already supply, thanks to persistent misinformation campaigns.

A Climate Council study has found that a rise in anti-renewables media reporting and political campaigning – a relatively recent phenomenon in the context of just how long renewable energy has been operating in Australia – is causing people to think the country is much further behind than it is.

The study shows that Australians underestimate the level of popular support for renewables in their country, as well as how far the transition away from fossil fuels has come.

@earthmothering9 We don't have many independent news outlets. We can't even count the ABC in that number---considering how much the IPA has contaminated our National Broadcaster.

It's little wonder then, that so many Australians are ignorant of the extent that Renewable Energy supplies their power.

"Australians are more likely to have solar panels on their rooftop than a pool in their back yard"

I find this very hard to believe. Is there any gov data?

@nf3xn @earthmothering9 I'm an Australian and I don't find it hard to believe at all. I only have to look around at the rooftops and the banks of solar panels.

@earthmothering9 Yeah, I've noticed that trolls talk about renewables technology, EVs and vehicle-to-grid as though they're still in the future. Like "there's no way a semi trailer powered by battery could go the distance", when they're already doing it. Like they remember something they heard 5-10 years ago and think it's still true.

@earthmothering9 Folks are unaware how many electric cars are already on the road. I see them everywhere because I'm familar with (some of) the makes/models but they do look "just like cars" and if you didn't know what to look for, you might think you haven't seen any. #EVs

@earthmothering9 what continues to amaze me are people in rural communities who've relied on windmills for hundreds of years, being anti windmills for energy. 🤪

@earthmothering9

The report months ago where Australian Electricity suppliers want to be capable of limiting the capacity of the solar panels on private residences to produce power told us that. Money grubbing a*seholes
