Whose doorstep is this? The hole is about the diameter of a soft drink can. It's in the bank of a small creek. The hole is half-filled with water. Come out so I can see you!

Here you go. Although you can't see the size, it stretches out when swimming and easily disappears into a small hole in the bank at the water level or just below.

What sort of body of water, creek, pond, marsh, river. What geographical location? Muskrats do use burrows like that if you live somewhere there are muskrats

This is a small creek in central Virginia. I think there are muskrats in this area.
